World of Warcrack [Dec. 15th, 2004|03:33 pm]
Paul
Those who read clevergretchen's LJ already know. I be addicted to the Wonderful World of Warcraft. If any of you other hapless addicts wanna kill stuff with me in WoW-land lemme know. I'm on the hellscream server as a dark elf druid named Parblelfo.

Today's trinity of thoughts:
plastic owls do keep pidgeons away.
knee high socks on chicks are hot.
talking about the weather is boring but for some reason we all do it.

Comic Survey [Aug. 16th, 2004|09:12 am]
Paul
ganked from aimeekitty

01) Amazing Spider-Man is the first comic book I really got into.
02) Amazing Spider-Man is one of the comics I currently collect.
03) Spider-Man is one of my all-time favorite superheroes.
04) Blade of the Immortal is my favorite non-superhero comic.
05) (plead the 5th) is a very overrated character.
06) (plead the 5th) is, in my opinion, a very overrated comic artist.
07) Peter David (just pulled one out of the hat)  is one of my favorite comic book writers.
08) Mark Silvestri's run on Uncanny X-men is a happy comic book memory for me.
09) (hmm there's so many...) Phil Noto  is awesome at drawing female characters.
10) Katsuhiro Otomo is one of my all-time favorite comic artists.
11) Travis Charest is an artist I'd love to see drawing a monthly series.
12) Sandman is a comic I've always meant to read, but haven't done so yet.
13) The Dark Horse reprinting of Akira was a welcome '80s comeback.
14)  Superman is a comic I've never read or paid much attention to.
15)  Aquaman is a popular character I've never really paid attention to.
16) Blade of the Immortal is a title I would recommend to my friends.
17) The Joker is one of my favorite comic villains.
18) Hellboy is a comic I'm glad they made into a movie/movie franchise.
19) Daredevil is a comic they totally ruined by making it into a movie.
20) Katsuhiro Otomo is someone I would really love to meet at a comic convention.
21) Booster Gold??? is a character I can see myself being for Halloween.
22) Uncanny X-Men is a comic I used to love, but now I'm not so hot about.
23) Jeff Smith is someone I would love to work on a comic book with.  (was gonna say Emma, but I didn't want anyone getting sick ;) )
24) $5 is the most I'll spend on a 22-page (average sized) comic.
25)  Old school Silver Surfer actually being a good [comic?] is something they should bring back.

New comic book in the works... [Jul. 16th, 2004|12:08 pm]

[mood |stressedstressed]

Well, I'm in the process of fleshing out the rest of my 24 hour comic.  I'm doing a complete re-write of the last 12 pages.  I've got it laid out through page 21 and tonight I should be able to wrap up pages 22-24.  I'm really looking forward to rendering the final pencils and inks for this.  It's a very simple style so, I should be able to crank it out over Saturday and Sunday.  Hopefully it'll go to print on Monday and I can rest a bit on Tuesday before the trip to San Diego.  yay!  *blood vessel in eye bursts*

Added Lovebot to the Sketchblog

I'm trying to get stuff ready for SD Comic-Con. Hopefully I'll get something together for an ashcan-type freebie handout. Wonder how many would be feasible to print out... hmmm. Anyway, back to work.

The Commuter Strikes Again... or something like that [Jul. 7th, 2004|01:52 am]
Paul
So here I am at 2:00AM scanning in old comic strips that have been missing from my website for over 4 years. Wow this is some humble pie. I really thought I was hot shit back then. It got me curious, and I dug up the first 80 comic strips I did. Hoooweee! These are some stinkers!!!! Anyway, I'll be posting all of this stuff very soon on my site for anyone who gives a damn. You can laugh at my feeble attempts at sequential humor, poor draftsmanship, and non-existent scanning skills.

Toys, Toys, Toys! [Jun. 29th, 2004|04:13 pm]
Paul
Man, I love ToyJoy on 29th and Guadalupe. Always something cool in there.
I picked up a Sunshine Buddy a month or two ago. They're very simple but very cool. Basically put them in some light and their heads sway back and forth. Quite soothing. Apparently there's a beach flavor available in Japan that makes... beach noises and a similar toy called flip flap.

The other day I also saw a cool figurine collection called Scarygirl Mini Treehouse. They're nifty and well crafted. Unfortunately you don't get to choose the figure you want, it's a surprize when you open the box. I guess that saves you from collector geeks that snatch up all the rare/cool ones immediately, but still an inconvenience.

Lastly there's Aquapets. Logic tells me that these toys are nothing but fancy paperweights, but I keep fighting the urge to fork over $15 for one. It's a little pokemon-like animal sealed in a water-filled tube. You press a button on the base and the animal swims up and down and chitters some noise. Kinda cool. It'd be interesting if you could "feed" them or something like a tamagotchi.

So much to do, so stuck at work. [Jun. 16th, 2004|07:29 pm]

Zelda: Legend of the Four Swords is great.  The graphics are gorgeous and gameplay is easy to get the hang of.  There's lots of backstabbing fun to be had in this Zelda incarnation.  Force gems are the cuthroat comodity that everyone is after throughout each level.  All players get a sword power-up once a certain number of force gems are collected by the entire group.  This is necessary for the completion of levels; however, it is not required for any one person to have the most force gems except for the sole purpose of being a gem whore and getting to stand on the 1st place platform at the end of the level.  For some reason, the draw to be a gem whore is irresistable.  Great delight is taken in calling upon a cadre of angry chickens to attack your friends and scooping up their gems.
